Happy Memorial Day!

Hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day! We had a picnic today and plan on playing volleyball with some friends this evening. I hope that we all took time to remember our fallen heroes. I am forever grateful for what they have done and the sacrifice they made. And I'm blessed to live in this country!

Our picnic food was yummy and super easy. We had pork BBQ sandwiches, chips, watermelon and homemade chocolate chip cookies.

Yesterday, I put a pork loin in the crock pot on high for about 5 hours. I just put it in, pour one can of chicken broth in, sprinkle liberally with salt and pepper and your are done! I make gravy from the broth and shred the pork and serve it on top of mashed potatoes. It is one of my husband's favorite meals. I serve this pretty often since Kroger has these pork loins for about $1.88/pound pretty often. One loin gets at least two meals with my family, and if Im lucky and have a little leftover, I make soup or BBQ with it.

So today, I just took my leftover shredded pork from yesterday, heat it up and then add BBQ sauce to it.

What are your favorite picnic foods?

My $100 Kitchen Cabinet Makeover!

I'm so excited to share today's post. It's something I've been working on for about 2 months, on and off. But it is finished and so today I'm sharing how we renovated our kitchen cabinets for about $100. When we bought our house in a little over a year ago, I fell in love with the kitchen just by the listings photos. UPDATE!!! Check out this  post to see how I also stained my island! It was HUGE and there was about a billion cabinets. The kitchen in our old house was a pretty good size also and I knew I would not be content with a smaller kitchen. So these pictures sold me. We bought the house and moved in and I lived with the kitchen for awhile but the cabinet color was really bugging me. I liked the counter tops well enough but they clashed with the cabinets. We did not have the money to replace all those cabinets so the next decision was to either paint or stain them. I stumbled upon General Finishes Gel Stain and thought the id...

$5 Laundry "Room" Update

I don't have a laundry room. I have a laundry closet right off the kitchen. I actually love it there because it is so convenient to keep laundry going through out the day. I wish it was a little bigger and I have future plans down the road, but for now I have to keep it organized or there is just not enough room for it all! Here was the state of my closet before. Not too bad, but there were things in there that shouldn't be in there (a sprinkler??) and it just was cluttered. Not to mention plain and boring. I think I've mentioned before on here how much I love Dollar Tree. If not, I'll say it now. I love Dollar Tree! They have some of the cutest stuff! So I went there today to find some things to organize this with. Here's what I came up with. I bought the 3 aqua colored baskets today and the green and gray tray I was already using.  I wiped everything down and got to work. This is what it looks like now. The two hanging ...

Mixes to DIY to Save Time, Money and Eat Better

Lately, I have been wanting to start making more things from scratch. It saves a little bit of money and it's so much better for you. So I figured I would start simple and try homemade pancake mix and homemade instant oatmeal packets. We eat both of these quite a bit, and I'm starting to not like any store bought pancake mix and making from scratch all the time is starting to get annoying! Here is the instant oatmeal recipe I used. The only thing about this recipe that I might change next time is that 1/2 cup of mix per bag is a little too much oatmeal in one sitting for me. My husband likes it. But next time, I might only put 1/4 cup mix in each bag.  We are reusing the bags since the same thing is going to go right back in  them again. I use 2/3 cup water for each bag. Here  is the pancake mix I used. And I will have to say, I haven't used this recipe yet since I've made it, but it was a simple recipe.  What other items would ...
