Bi-Weekly Meal Plan, $113 Aldi Haul and Freezing Sloppy Joes

It has been crazy around here lately! We were gone on our anniversary trip and as soon as we got back we found out that my husband's grandmother had passed away. So two days after we got home, we packed up again and drove 8 hours away, stayed for 3 days and came back.

Today I had to get groceries, so I planned out my menu and shopping list. But when I got to the grocery store, I realized I had forgotten my list! I got as many things as I could remember and even some I knew weren't on my list, and I think I did pretty good! After I got home, I re-wrote a list of things that I forgot, so I'll be going back out tonight and getting the few things I forgot. I'm going to try out our new Neighborhood Wal-mart grocery store. Do you have one of those near you? Our's has only been open about a month and I have not been in yet. I have heard great things about it though.

Here is what I ended up getting at Aldi. They have really great meat and produce deals. And their milk is always about $0.30-0.40 cheaper/gallon. Once again, I include everything I buy at the grocery store in my grocery budget. I grocery shop for two weeks worth of meals at a time and buy extra meat when I can.

I love Sloppy Joes, but I'm the only one in my family who does. So when I do make them, I make a full batch and freeze in individual portions to thaw quickly. And it's so easy! After you cook your mixture and let it cool, fill muffin cups about 3/4 full with it. Flash freeze for about 20 minutes or until hard enough to remove in one piece, and throw into a freezer bag. It only takes about 30-60 seconds in the microwave to heat up!

My $100 Kitchen Cabinet Makeover!

I'm so excited to share today's post. It's something I've been working on for about 2 months, on and off. But it is finished and so today I'm sharing how we renovated our kitchen cabinets for about $100. When we bought our house in a little over a year ago, I fell in love with the kitchen just by the listings photos. UPDATE!!! Check out this  post to see how I also stained my island! It was HUGE and there was about a billion cabinets. The kitchen in our old house was a pretty good size also and I knew I would not be content with a smaller kitchen. So these pictures sold me. We bought the house and moved in and I lived with the kitchen for awhile but the cabinet color was really bugging me. I liked the counter tops well enough but they clashed with the cabinets. We did not have the money to replace all those cabinets so the next decision was to either paint or stain them. I stumbled upon General Finishes Gel Stain and thought the id...

$5 Laundry "Room" Update

I don't have a laundry room. I have a laundry closet right off the kitchen. I actually love it there because it is so convenient to keep laundry going through out the day. I wish it was a little bigger and I have future plans down the road, but for now I have to keep it organized or there is just not enough room for it all! Here was the state of my closet before. Not too bad, but there were things in there that shouldn't be in there (a sprinkler??) and it just was cluttered. Not to mention plain and boring. I think I've mentioned before on here how much I love Dollar Tree. If not, I'll say it now. I love Dollar Tree! They have some of the cutest stuff! So I went there today to find some things to organize this with. Here's what I came up with. I bought the 3 aqua colored baskets today and the green and gray tray I was already using.  I wiped everything down and got to work. This is what it looks like now. The two hanging ...

My Frugal Cottage/Farmhouse Decor and how YOU can get it.

I have been on a decorating spree lately. I just finished my cabinets ( see them in this post here !) and so I've been changing things up a little bit. Plus spring is almost here and so I've been getting my flowers out for it! I also love to see how inexpensively I can decorate while still looking nice. I love the stuff from Pottery Barn, Magnolia Market, etc. but here on THIS blog, I'm on a budget! My favorite stores are thrift stores, specifically the Goodwill or Goodwill Outlet and stores like Ross, Homegoods and Michaels. And of course, the Dollar Tree! I try to make a lot of my stuff, or redo it so it's more my style. I've tried to include links to some of the stuff I've bought. None of these links are affiliate links, they are just there to help you out! I've already shared my "mantle"  already but I had to include it in this post. I made the star, my husband made the plaque, I covered the books and decorated the vase. Everythin...
