Lately, I have been wanting to start making more things from scratch. It saves a little bit of money and it's so much better for you.
So I figured I would start simple and try homemade pancake mix and homemade instant oatmeal packets. We eat both of these quite a bit, and I'm starting to not like any store bought pancake mix and making from scratch all the time is starting to get annoying!
Here is the instant oatmeal recipe I used. The only thing about this recipe that I might change next time is that 1/2 cup of mix per bag is a little too much oatmeal in one sitting for me. My husband likes it. But next time, I might only put 1/4 cup mix in each bag.
We are reusing the bags since the same thing is going to go right back in them again.
I use 2/3 cup water for each bag.
Here is the pancake mix I used. And I will have to say, I haven't used this recipe yet since I've made it, but it was a simple recipe.
What other items would you want to make from scratch? I have an upcoming post about canning some things that provide more made-from-scratch items.
Here is a Dinner Roll Recipe that is made from scratch and can be frozen in batches if you don't eat them all at once! ;)
I used to make my own pancake mix and it was a huge time saver. I've gotten away from it and now just have to mix up pancakes from scratch every time we have breakfast for dinner. Thanks for reminding me I need to make up a new mix. :)
ReplyDeleteI love homemade pancakes and it's such a quick breakfast when you have mix on hand!
