Our DIY Bedside Table (from a bar stool!)

In our old house we had a very small bedroom. By the time you put the bed and dresser in there wasn't much floor space left, but I wanted bedside tables. I found two bar stools at a yard sale for 2/1.00 or 2/$1.50, I can't remember. They had a black vinyl cushioned seat that was torn and a plain wooden bottom. 





This was our old master bedroom.You can see the floor space I had to work with but these tables fit perfectly.




My husband cut two 12x12 pieces of cheap wood for the top. Then I simply hot glued them on! Yes, I'm not very good with a drill, so I just used a hot glue gun. And they have remained glued throughout three moves and about 3 1/2 years. You could use a drill and just screw these boards into the bar stool
seat. I did not take the seat off.




I spray painted the stool with coral colored spray paint I found at Michael's. I wrapped the ledges with twine, using hot glue to secure them.

My husband then cut 4 pieces of wood that would fit onto the ledges for shelves. These shelves are the perfect size for books and the top fits a long box of tissues perfectly. When you need a tissue, grab one and the box stays put. It's a perfect set-up!



I cut burlap to fit the new wood top and-you guessed it- hot glued it on. I also hot glued the lace. It sounds like a hot glue mess, but like I said, it's still going strong after 3 1/2 years and 3 house moves!



We have a much larger bedroom now but I still use the side tables. Why take up more room than you have to? 

All-in, I think these tables cost me about $12-15 for BOTH. When you are working on your house or looking for furniture, DIY is a sometimes a good way to save a lot of money. And in this case it was super easy. I mean, anyone can hot glue! :)

My Frugal Cottage/Farmhouse Decor and how YOU can get it.

I have been on a decorating spree lately. I just finished my cabinets ( see them in this post here !) and so I've been changing things up a little bit. Plus spring is almost here and so I've been getting my flowers out for it! I also love to see how inexpensively I can decorate while still looking nice. I love the stuff from Pottery Barn, Magnolia Market, etc. but here on THIS blog, I'm on a budget! My favorite stores are thrift stores, specifically the Goodwill or Goodwill Outlet and stores like Ross, Homegoods and Michaels. And of course, the Dollar Tree! Thrifty Thursday-Marked Down Bread

Today I am sharing a tip that I use to stretch my meals out a little.  I buy marked down Italian bread loaves in the store bakeries.  I bought this loaf for $.72. It was only $1.00 to begin with but $0.28 is $0.28! Plus that's not the only savings you get with this. I love those boxes of frozen garlic toast that are about $3.00 for 6 slices!!! That's crazy. But sometimes, I just really want some bread with my meal. So I slice up the loaf and portion it out in 4 pieces per bag.  I then put all the individual bags in one big freezer bag and freeze. When it's time to eat, just pull out a bag. They thaw quickly. I spread softened butter on each side and sprinkle with garlic salt. I sprinkle with mozzarella cheese and sometimes I add Parmesan cheese. Bake at 375 for about 7 minutes or until they reach the desired crispness. With those other boxes coming in at about $0.50/slice, these are so much cheaper!!
